Marriott Bonvoy and Cathay Preferred Partnership Program Terms and Conditions

Part A – The Preferred Partnership Program

  1. Introduction
    1. These terms and conditions (the “Preferred Partnership Rules”) form the basis of the Marriott Bonvoy and Cathay preferred partnership program (“Preferred Partnership Program”) offered by Marriott International, Inc. (“Marriott International”), as the operator of the Marriott Bonvoy™ loyalty program (“Marriott Bonvoy”), and Asia Miles Limited (“AML”), as the operator of the Cathay Membership Program (“Cathay” or “Cathay Membership Programme”). A person who is a member of both Marriott Bonvoy and the Cathay Membership Programme and who enrolls in the Preferred Partnership Program in accordance with these Preferred Partnership Rules is referred to as a “Joint Member” in these Preferred Partnership Rules.
    2. Part B of these Preferred Partnership Rules shall apply to Joint Members in their capacity as Cathay Members (as defined below) and sets out the eligibility requirements of Cathay Members to participate in certain offers and receive certain benefits offered by AML under the Preferred Partnership Program.
    3. Part C and Part D of these Preferred Partnership Rules shall apply to Joint Members in their capacity as Marriott Bonvoy members and sets out the eligibility requirements of Marriot Bonvoy members to participate in certain offers and receive certain benefits offered by Marriott International under the Preferred Partnership Program.
    4. By submitting a registration request for, participating in, or availing the benefits of the Preferred Partnership Program, participants agree to be bound by these Preferred Partnership Rules.
    5. Marriott International and AML have the right to terminate the Preferred Partnership Program or to change, limit, modify or cancel the Preferred Partnership Rules, regulations, policies, procedures, conditions of participation, benefits, awards, and special offers, in whole or in part, at any time, with or without notice. Continuing to be enrolled in the Preferred Partnership Program and participating in any of the offers provided herein after any such changes or modifications are made to these Preferred Partnership Rules will indicate your agreement to the changes and modifications.
  2. Definitions
    1. The following terms used in these Preferred Partnership Rules have the meanings specified below:
      • Account” means a Cathay Member’s Cathay membership account that is active and valid and has not been suspended or terminated pursuant to the Cathay Membership Programme Terms and Conditions.
      • Asia Miles” or “Miles” means the mileage credits credited by AML to Members of Cathay (as those credits may be amended, re-branded, re-named or replaced from time to time).
      • Cathay Member” means a current member of Cathay.
      • Cathay Terms and Conditions” means the Cathay Membership Programme terms and conditions governing, among other things, membership, Status Points, Statuses, etc. in the Cathay Membership Programme.
      • Marriott Bonvoy Account” means the membership account of an individual Marriott Bonvoy Member, which is maintained by Marriott Bonvoy, and which, among other things, tracks the earning and redemption of Marriott Bonvoy Points in accordance with the Marriott Bonvoy Program Rules and which is active and valid and has not been suspended or terminated pursuant to the Marriott Bonvoy Program Rules.
      • Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Member” means a Marriott Bonvoy member that has reached the Ambassador Elite tier of Marriott Bonvoy.
      • Marriott Bonvoy Gold Member” means a Marriott Bonvoy member that has reached the Gold Elite tier of Marriott Bonvoy.
      • Marriott Bonvoy Member” means a Marriott Bonvoy member holding the entry level tier membership.
      • Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Member” means a Marriott Bonvoy member that has reached the Platinum Elite tier of Marriott Bonvoy.
      • Marriott Bonvoy Program Rules” means the terms and conditions issued by Marriott International which govern participation in the Marriott Bonvoy. The Marriott Bonvoy Program Rules can be found at: https://www.marriott.com/loyalty/terms/default.mi.
      • Marriott Bonvoy Silver Member” means a Marriott Bonvoy member that has reached the Silver Elite tier of Marriott Bonvoy.
      • Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Member” means a Marriott Bonvoy member that has reached the Titanium Elite tier of Marriott Bonvoy.
      • Points” means the points that may be earned and redeemed by Marriott Bonvoy Members in accordance with the Marriott Bonvoy Program Rules.
      • Qualifying Night(s)” means a night as part of a stay at a hotel participating in Marriott Bonvoy where the Joint Member (i) pays a Qualifying Rate, (ii) provides the Joint Member’s Marriott Bonvoy Account number upon booking, at check-in or before checkout, and (iii) personally stays in the reserved guest room. A “Qualifying Rate” is the rate a Marriott Bonvoy Member pays for a stay in a guest room at a hotel participating in Marriott Bonvoy which qualifies to earn Points or Miles (as defined in the Marriott Bonvoy Program Rules). Qualifying Rates include most business and leisure rates, such as rates found on Marriott.com without an application of a discount code, standard and premium retail rates, advanced purchase rates, corporate negotiated rates, and national/regional/local government rates. Award Redemption Stays, including Cash + Points Awards, Free Night Awards, or a Points redemption (as each such term is defined under the Marriott Bonvoy Program Rules), are not eligible as Qualifying Nights under the Preferred Partnership Program.
      • Status” means the status of a Member based on the four statuses of the Cathay Membership Programme pursuant to the Cathay Terms and Conditions.
      • Status Points” means the points credited by AML to Members of Cathay in accordance with the terms and conditions of Cathay (as those points may be amended, re-branded, re-named or replaced from time to time).
  3. Enrollment and Eligibility to Enroll and Participate in the Preferred Partnership Program
    1. To be eligible to enroll and participate in the Preferred Partnership Program, a person must have a valid Marriott Bonvoy Account and Cathay Membership Programme Account, each of which, is in good standing.
    2. Each Joint Member may only participate and receive the benefits and/or awards under the Preferred Partnership Program once.
    3. Eligibility is subject to further terms and conditions provided in Part B and Part C of these Preferred Partnership Rules.
    4. Joint Members enrolling in the Preferred Partnership Program must ensure that the account holder name in both their Cathay Account and Marriott Bonvoy Account match so that any Preferred Partnership Program benefit may post to the relevant account.
    5. Marriott Bonvoy members who hold Silver Elite or no Elite status in Marriott Bonvoy are not eligible to register for complimentary Cathay Silver Status or any other Status in the Cathay Program through the Preferred Partnership Program.
    6. Members who meet the eligibility criteria to receive complimentary Cathay Status under the Preferred Partnership Program because of a trial Elite status in Marriott Bonvoy, including without limitation a "Taste of Elite" program, are not eligible for complimentary Cathay Silver Status and/or Cathay Gold Status through Preferred Partnership Program.
    7. To receive the benefits of the Preferred Partnership Program, Joint Members must link their Marriott Bonvoy Account and Cathay Membership Programme Accounts by enrolling in the Preferred Partnership Program. Last name and first initial on the accounts must match to successfully link.
    8. If the registration quota is met, as determined by AML and Marriott International, registration in the Preferred Partnership Program will close and no longer be available for new Marriott Bonvoy and Cathay Membership Programme members to register.
  4. General conditions of the Preferred Partnership Program
    1. All offers and benefits of this Preferred Partnership Program are subject to these Preferred Partnership Rules and any regulations, policies, procedures, conditions or participation, special offers that AML and Marriott International may adopt from time to time in their discretion. Status Points, Points, the benefits awarded and received by Joint Members after fulfilling the requirements of the relevant offer under this Preferred Partnership Program are subject to the Cathay Terms and Conditions and the Marriott Bonvoy Program Rules, as applicable.
    2. AML has the right to terminate Cathay or to change the Cathay Terms and Conditions, regulations, policies, procedures, conditions of participation, benefits, awards, and special offers, in whole or in part, at any time, with or without notice, even though such changes may affect the value of Asia Miles and/or Status Points.
    3. Marriott International has the right to terminate the Marriott Bonvoy program or to change, limit, modify or cancel the Marriott Bonvoy Program Rules, regulations, policies, procedures, conditions of participation, benefits, awards, and special offers, in whole or in part, at any time, with or without notice, even though such changes may affect the value of Points.
    4. The benefits, awards, offers, Status Points, and Points provided under this Preferred Partnership Program are not transferable and may not be sold, bartered, assigned, or otherwise dealt with other than in accordance with these Preferred Partnership Rules and the Cathay Terms and Conditions and the Marriot Bonvoy Program Rules, as may be applicable.
    5. Completed registrations from members requesting complimentary status through the Preferred Partnership Program are subject to review and determination by Cathay and/or Marriott Bonvoy as to whether the member meets the applicable eligibility criteria set forth in the Preferred Partnership Rules, and status from such registration requests are not guaranteed.
    6. Members who register a request for a complimentary status should allow 7-10 business days for their accounts to reflect the new status, if granted.
    7. Complimentary Status and Marriott Bonvoy Elite status offered under the Preferred Partnership Program ("Status Offerings") status offerings will only be granted to members who meet the applicable eligibility criteria set forth in the Preferred Partnership Rules. Status Offerings are generally valid for a minimum of twelve (12) months in which the Status Offering is granted and expire in accordance with the Cathay Terms and Conditions (with respect to Status) and Marriott Bonvoy Program Rules (with respect to Marriott Bonvoy Elite Status), as applicable. Notwithstanding the foregoing, Marriott Bonvoy and Cathay reserve the right to determine the validity period of a Status Offering, which may differ from the Cathay membership status and Elite programs offered by Cathay and Marriott Bonvoy, respectively.
    8. Any failure by a Joint Member to comply with these Preferred Partnership Rules, the Cathay Terms and Conditions, or the Marriott Bonvoy Program Rules, or if the Joint Member takes any action that is detrimental to, is fraudulent, or commits any misconduct in connection with Marriott Bonvoy and/or Cathay, may result in the suspension or termination of participation in this Preferred Partnership Program, Marriott Bonvoy, and/or Cathay Membership Programme.
    9. All calculations and determinations made in connection with this Preferred Partnership Program will be made by AML and Marriott International in their discretion and all such calculations and determinations will be considered final. Cathay and Marriott Bonvoy reserve the right to request further supporting documentation from the Joint Member to validate the satisfaction of any requirements set out in these Preferred Partnership Rules. AML and Marriott International reserve the right to revise or reverse their determinations.
    10. By participating in the Preferred Partnership Program, Joint Members consent to Marriott International and AML each sharing and receiving Cathay and Marriott Bonvoy member data with and from Marriott International and AML and their respective subsidiaries, affiliates and agents. Such data will be used by Marriott International and AML in connection with the Preferred Partnership Program and will be used individually by AML and Marriott International in accordance with their respective privacy policies, which can be found at Cathay Pacific Customer Privacy Policy and 万豪国际集团中国大陆隐私声明 (marriott.com.cn) and https://www.marriott.com/about/privacy.mi.
    11. AML and its subsidiaries, affiliates and agents are not responsible for any products or services of Marriott Bonvoy, its corporate parent Marriott International, Inc., or any of its respective subsidiaries, affiliates, or agents, or of any other participating companies or partners.
    12. Marriott International and its subsidiaries, affiliates and agents are not responsible for any products or services of AML, its corporate parent Cathay Pacific Airways Limited or any of its respective subsidiaries, affiliates, or agents, or of any other participating companies or partners.
    13. Part B – Cathay offers and benefits provided to Joint Members in their capacity as Cathay Members

  1. Additional eligibility rules for Cathay Members
    1. The following Cathay Members will not be eligible for any benefits in this Preferred Partnership Program:
      1. Cathay Members with Green Status who are Marriott Bonvoy Members or Marriott Bonvoy Silver Members;
      2. Cathay Members with Gold Status who are Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Members, Marriott Bonvoy Lifetime Platinum Members, Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Members, Marriott Bonvoy Lifetime Titanium Members, or Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Members;
      3. Cathay Members with Diamond Status who are Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Members, Marriott Bonvoy Lifetime Platinum Members, Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Members, Marriott Bonvoy Lifetime Titanium Members or Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Members.
  2. Cathay Silver Acceleration Offer for Joint Members in their capacity as Cathay Members with Green Status who are also Marriott Bonvoy Gold Members
    1. Subject to clauses 2.2 - 2.5 of this Part B, Section 2, a Cathay Member with Green Status and who is, at the time of enrolment in the Preferred Partnership Program, a Marriott Bonvoy Gold Member will be eligible to be upgraded to Silver Status if they accrue at least 150 Status Points within 12 months of enrolling in this Preferred Partnership Program acceleration offer (“Cathay Silver Acceleration Offer”). If a Marriott Bonvoy Gold Member has already achieved Cathay Silver Status at the time of registration in the Preferred Partnership Program, they will not be able to enroll in this Cathay Silver Acceleration Offer.
    2. The number of Status Points of such Cathay Member will be reset to zero upon enrolment in the Preferred Partnership Program.
    3. After enrolment in the Preferred Partnership Program, such Cathay Member must take at least one (1) Cathay Pacific Airways marketed and operated flight that earns Status Points and the Status Points earned from such flight must be credited to such Member’s Account after the flight.
    4. This Cathay Silver Acceleration Offer is only available from February 26, 2024 through 11:59PM HKT on February 25, 2025 and is non-transferable and is subject at all times to modification, cancellation or limitation at AML and Marriott International’s discretion, with or without notice.
    5. When Cathay grants a Member of Marriott Bonvoy Cathay Silver Status under the Cathay Silver Accelerator Offer, such member will have Cathay Silver Status for a period of twelve (12) months. Thereafter, the member must qualify for Cathay Silver Status under the Cathay Terms and Conditions.
  3. Cathay Green to Silver Upgrade Offer and Cathay Gold Acceleration Offer for Joint Members in their capacity as Cathay Members with Green Status who are also Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Members or holding Titanium Elite or Ambassador Elite Marriott Bonvoy membership
    1. Subject to clauses 3.3 and 3.4 of this Part B, Section 3, a Cathay Member with Green Status and who is, at the time of enrolment in the Preferred Partnership Program, a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite, Titanium Elite, or Ambassador Elite Marriott Bonvoy Member, will be upgraded to Cathay Silver Status (“Cathay Green to Silver Upgrade Offer”).
    2. Subject to clause 4.2 of Part B Section 4, upon such upgrade to Cathay Silver Status under clause 3.1 of this Part B, Section 3, such Cathay Member will be eligible to be further upgraded to Cathay Gold Status by participating in the Cathay Gold Acceleration Offer as described in section 4 of this Part B.
    3. The number of Cathay Members that may be upgraded to Cathay Silver Status under clause 3.1 of this Part B, Section 3 will be subject to a limited quota as determined by AML and Marriott International in their sole discretion. After the quota for this Cathay Green to Silver Upgrade Offer has been reached, this Cathay Green to Silver Upgrade Offer will close and will no longer be available and any attempt to register for the offer will be void.
    4. The number of Status Points of such Cathay Member will be reset to zero upon enrolment in the Preferred Partnership Program.
  4. Status Extension Offer, and Acceleration Offer for Joint Members in their capacity as Cathay Members with Silver Status
    1. Subject to clauses 4.3 of this Part B, Section 4, a Cathay Member with Silver Status and who is, at the time of enrollment in Preferred Partnership Program, a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Member, Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Member, or Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Member, will keep their Silver Status for 12 months from the date of their enrolment in the Preferred Partnership Program, notwithstanding their original Silver Status validity period and original Silver Status expiration date.
    2. Subject to clauses 4.3 – 4.6 of this Part B, Section 4, Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite Members, Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite Members, and Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Elite Members who are, at the time of enrollment in Preferred Partnership Program, a Cathay Member with Silver Status will be eligible to be upgraded to Gold Status if they accrue at least 300 Status Points within 12 months of enrolling in this Preferred Partnership Program acceleration offer (“Cathay Gold Acceleration Offer”). If a Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite Member, Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite Member or Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Elite Member has already achieved Cathay Gold Status at the time of registration in the Preferred Partnership Program, they will not be able to enroll in this acceleration offer.
    3. The number of Status Points of such Cathay Member will be reset to zero upon enrolment in the Preferred Partnership Program.
    4. After enrolment in the Preferred Partnership Program, such Cathay Member must take at least one (1) Cathay Pacific Airways marketed and operated flight that earns Status Points and the Status Points earned from such flight must be credited to such Cathay Member’s Account after the flight.
    5. The Cathay Gold Acceleration Offer in clause 4.2 of this Part B, Section 4 is only available from February 26, 2024 through 11:59PM HKT on February 25, 2025 and is non-transferable and is subject at all times to modification, cancellation or limitation at AML and Marriott International’s discretion, with or without notice.
    6. When Cathay grants a Member of Marriott Bonvoy Cathay Gold Status under the Cathay Gold Accelerator Offer, such member will have Cathay Gold Status for a period of twelve (12) months. Thereafter, the member must qualify for Cathay Gold Status under the Cathay Terms and Conditions.
  5. Marriott Bonvoy Offers for Joint Members in their capacity as Cathay Members with Silver, Gold, or Diamond Status
    1. A Cathay Member with Silver Status, Gold Status, or Diamond Status and who is, at the time of enrolment in the Preferred Partnership Program, a Marriott Bonvoy Member, a Marriott Bonvoy Silver Member or a Marriott Bonvoy Gold Member may be eligible to receive certain additional benefits from Marriott Bonvoy under this Preferred Partnership Program, subject to the terms and conditions set out below in clause 1 of Part C and clause 1 of Part D below.

Part C – Marriott Bonvoy offers and benefits provided to Joint Members in their capacity as Marriott Bonvoy Members

  1. Subject to clauses 1.3 and 6 of this Part C, Members of the Cathay Membership Program will be eligible for Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status if the Cathay Silver, Gold or Diamond member stays 10 Qualifying Nights (as defined in Part A, Section 2.1 above) at hotels participating in Marriott Bonvoy (“Participating Properties”) within six (6) months (“Cathay Accelerator Challenge”) from date of enrollment in the Cathay Accelerator Challenge);
    1. Members of the Cathay Membership Program will receive three thousand (3,000) bonus Points upon completion of the Cathay Accelerator Challenge.
    2. When Marriott Bonvoy grants a Cathay Silver, Gold or Diamond member Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status under the Cathay Accelerator Challenge, such member will have Platinum Elite status for a minimum of twelve (12) months, and such Platinum Elite status shall expire in accordance with the Marriott Bonvoy Program Rules. Thereafter, the member must qualify for Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status under the Marriott Bonvoy Program Rules.
    3. If a Cathay Silver, Gold, or Diamond member has already achieved Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite, Marriott Bonvoy Titanium Elite, or Marriott Bonvoy Ambassador Elite status at the time they register for the Preferred Partnership Program, they will not be able to enroll in the Cathay Accelerator Challenge.
  2. The Cathay Accelerator Challenge is non-transferable and is subject at all times to modification, cancellation, or limitation at AML and Marriott International’s discretion, with or without notice.
  3. The Cathay Accelerator Challenge is only available from February 26, 2024 through 11:59PM HKT on February 25, 2025, and any attempt to register for the Cathay Accelerator Challenge after such time will be void.

Part D - Eligibility and registration for complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite Status

  1. Subject to clause 2 of this Part D, Cathay Members with Silver, Gold, or Diamond Status who participate in the Preferred Partnership Program shall be eligible to request complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status.
  2. To register a request for complimentary Gold Elite status in Marriott Bonvoy, a Cathay Member must hold an active, validated account with either Cathay Silver, Gold, or Diamond Status in the Cathay Program.
  3. If so validated by AML, the Cathay Member will be able to register to request complimentary Gold Elite status in Marriott Bonvoy through the Preferred Partnership Program.
  4. Cathay Members who hold Cathay Green Status are not eligible to register for complimentary Gold Elite status or any other Elite status in Marriott Bonvoy through the Preferred Partnership Program.
  5. Joint Members who meet the criteria from any Status match offerings (including but not limited to this Preferred Partnership Program) offered by AML, are not eligible for complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status through the Preferred Partnership Program.
  6. If a Cathay Member who otherwise meets the criteria for complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status through the Preferred Partnership Program already holds Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status, the member can enjoy a 12-month extension of the member’s Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status from the date of registration in the Preferred Partnership Program. If a Cathay Member who otherwise meets the criteria for complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status through the Preferred Partnership Program already holds Marriott Bonvoy Platinum Elite status or higher, the member will retain their Platinum Elite or higher status in accordance with the Marriott Bonvoy Program Rules.
  7. When Marriott Bonvoy grants a Cathay Member with Silver, Gold, or Diamond status complimentary Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status, the Member will retain their Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status for a minimum of 12 months, and such Gold status shall expire in accordance with the Marriott Bonvoy Program Rules. Thereafter, the member must qualify for Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite status under the Marriott Bonvoy Program Rules.
